Professional Goals
The primary goal of a library is to give access to its community. This is especially vital for students and researchers, so academic libraries need to view various aspects of a diverse student population if it expects to accomplish that goal. As a librarian and an archivist, I aim to utilize digitization techniques and electronic resources to build up academic connections for students and their various research interests. My main duty will be to teach students how to quickly and effectively utilize their physical and digital libraries, so that their college experience will be focused more on exploration and learning rather than frustration and confusion.
Inclusion Statement
Academia as a whole remains inaccessible to disabled students and many others. To make academic libraries more accessible, I aim to (1) accession and digitize student and teacher-requested electronic resources, while also maintaining open communication with Bookstacks to avoid overcrowding. This will help in clearing the library’s physical space, so that it can be more open and accommodating to mobility aid-users. I also aim to (2) implement multiple accessibility tools to the online catalog and resources to make it more conducive to public learning and access. Students with various disabilities (i.e., hard of hearing, visually impaired, neurodivergent) can then find multiple methods of learning and research that fit their needs. With these strategies and more, students of various backgrounds and abilities will succeed in their research and feel welcomed by their library.
